Taking pictures of my pieces is NOT my forte! I have spent countless hours trying to get good results on my own, but to no avail. Enter Cassie Rawdin… VERVE JEWELRY PHOTOGRAPHER EXTRAORDINAIRE!! Cassie is the very talented photographer responsible for taking all of the beautiful photos you see on vervejewelry.com. It was her idea to wrap the pieces around the succulent plants. Smart little Momma that one. I love the way her photos compliment the organic feel of my pieces without competing with them. She has a great eye for composition and color and her talent reflects in her photos.

Verve collects vintage buttons, mostly from the early 1900′s, and makes beautiful molds out of them to use in the PMC line. After making a mold of the button, I use a clay called PMC ( precious metal clay) to make the pendant. Precious metal clay contains microscopic particles of silver, which are suspended in a pliable organic matter. When the metal clay is fired at high temperatures in a kiln, the binder burns away and the metal particles fuse into pure (0.999) silver. Because each piece is hand- crafted, slight variations occur. Making each piece unique and one of a kind. Making your bridesmaids gifts unique and one of a kind!!

Larchmont Farmers Market: Where you should be Sunday Mornings

Los Angeles boasts many cool Farmers Markets that allow its residences to shop for locally grown fruits and vegetables and the one on Larchmont Blvd. is one of them. It is relatively small compared to the other markets in town, but because of this it has a cozy feel and a neighborhood-y vibe. Even on non-market days Larchmont Village has a unique vibe different from other neighborhoods in Los Angeles. It has been changing a bit over the last couple of years, but parts of it still help to retain that village like essence. You can walk up and down the street, perusing stores and eating at some great restaurants. There is also an ice cream shop, frozen yogurt and a chocolate shop to get your sweet tooth on. Some of my favorite restaurants are Girasole ( a family owned Italian restaurant), Larchmont Cheese and Wine (amazing sandwiches) and Kiku and California Roll for sushi. Larchmont also has some great retail boutiques that rival any other street in Los Angeles. My favorite is Noni Boutique. Noni is a fabulous fashion forward store that is run by owners, Meghan Misaki and Elaine Lewis. Both women have fabulous eyes for fashion and the store is always full of great items. Noni has carried Verve for the last 3 years and every Sunday during the Farmers Market, I set up a table in front of Noni and offer Verve at a discount of 25% off retail prices. WOO HOO!!

So come on down to Larchmont on a Sunday (from 8:00-2:00 pm) and get your salad fixings for the night’s dinner, buy some fresh flowers to beautify your home, and eat some freshly made tamales and hummus from one of the many food vendors at the market. It will make you feel good.

The Holidays and Verve Jewelry

Happy New Year! Feliz Ano Nuevo! Felice anno nuovo!

Today we welcome in the new year and quite frankly, I am ready to say good bye to 2009 and let 2010 come and bring with it lots of fresh new things and experiences!

December is always a busy time for Verve and this year was no exception. Lots of holiday bizarres and shows and shopping parties. Every year I participate in other people’s shows but this year I teamed up with fellow jewelry designer, Liz Law (of Liz Law Jewelry) and we threw our own Holiday Shopping Night. We decided to also turn the party into a fundraiser as well and chose “The Covenant House” as the charity to raise the money for. The Covenant House is a privately funded shelter for homeless youth. It is a great shelter that helps so many kids in so many different ways. They offer shelter, food, legal aid, medical aid and vocational training to thousands of kids every year. We wanted to raise awareness to their cause so we charged $3 at the door and had raffle give-aways and all of the proceeds went directly to the shelter. The show turned out beautifully and we had a group of fantastic vendors! The only problem was the rain!!! Not only did it rain that night, but it was a torrential down pour! Not the sprinkling that we are used to here in SoCal, but REAL rain! Unfortunately it did affect our turn out since most Californians believe they will melt in the rain but regardless- it was a fun night! And a learning experience. Next time, a consulting of the Farmer’s Almanac will be done prior to picking a date.
